TeamHealth, one of the largest providers of outsourced physician staffing solutions for hospitals in the United States, announced plans to expand its operations by leasing a new 40,000 square foot facility to be constructed at Base Pointe Business Park in Alcoa, Tenn. The project developers will invest $16.8 million and create 450 full-time jobs in the areas of management, accounting, medical coding and billing specifically for the specialty of anesthesia by August 2015.

“It always says a lot to businesses around the country and world when a company like TeamHealth, with a great history in our state chooses to continue growing here,” Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam said. “We want to thank TeamHealth for this significant investment and creating 450 new jobs in Blount County. Today’s announcement is great news for our East Tennessee communities and brings us another step closer toward our goal to make Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high quality jobs.”

“TeamHealth is a valued organization in Tennessee and I’m pleased they can take advantage of our business-friendly environment to continue expanding in our state,” said Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd. “These jobs will make a big difference in our communities, paving the way for additional long-term growth. I want to thank TeamHealth for their investment, and I look forward to their ongoing presence in Tennesee.”

“We are pleased to expand our presence in Blount County,” said Michael D. Snow, president and CEO of TeamHealth. “TeamHealth continues to experience significant growth, particularly within our anesthesia service line. Our new location will be solely dedicated to Healthcare Financial Services (HCFS) anesthesia operations and will allow us strengthen our coding and billing functions to support future growth.”

“TeamHealth has lived up to its promise of four years ago to continues to choose Blount County for its employment needs,” said Blount Partnership President/CEO Bryan Daniels. “This announcement of new Headquarter operations jobs continues the upward trend Blount County has seen over the past five years with more than 2700 jobs and $447 million of capital investment.”

TeamHealth’s Healthcare Financial Services has been part of Blount County for 18 years. In addition to its new anesthesia-specific location at 3231 North Star Circle, which is expandable to 70,000 square feet, TeamHealth operates two HCFS locations in Blount County, the current Base Pointe facility supporting its national hospital medicine and clinic operations and a Regal Drive location serving regional emergency medicine operations.

“TVA congratulates TeamHealth on its announcement to expand and create hundreds of new jobs in Blount County,” said John Bradley, TVA senior vice president of Economic Development. “TVA and Alcoa Electric Department are pleased to partner with the State of Tennessee, Blount Partnership and Blount County officials to facilitate TeamHealth’s growth.”

TeamHealth's approximately 11,000 affiliated healthcare professionals provide emergency medicine, hospital medicine, anesthesia, urgent care, and pediatric staffing and management services for civilian and military hospitals, clinics and physician groups. TeamHealth Healthcare Financial Services provides comprehensive coding and billing for patients seen in its client hospitals.

“This is another substantial investment by TeamHealth and we are happy that it has decided to continue to make Blount County its home,” said Ed Mitchell, Blount County Mayor. “This new facility, coupled with its existing building in Base Pointe, only lends credence to the knowledge that this community is a solid place for continued development.”

Work on improving the roadways on Topside Road and Wrights Ferry Road just off the Pellissippi Parkway (Exit 9 on I-140) to accommodate increased traffic flow is expected to be completed later this year.

“Having an organization like TeamHealth choose to expand in this area really speaks to the quality of life for its employees and our solid business community,” said Don Mull, City of Alcoa Mayor. “We appreciate the hard work of the Blount Partnership to pull all the parts together to make this expansion occur.”

“We are really thrilled about this expansion effort by TeamHealth and its commitment to this community with continued job growth,” said Fred Lawson, Chair of the Blount County Economic Development Board.  “The economic impact will be felt for years to come and can only open the door for similar entities to consider this thriving area.”

“We’d like to thank our local government leaders for lending their support and doing the things to make this project happen,” said Dave Bennett, Chair of Blount County Chamber of Commerce. “I would also like to thank TeamHealth for its continued backing of the local economy and choosing to stay in Blount County.”
